Los Noches de las Luminarias…

Bot sunsetIf I ever wonder why I live in the blazing hot desert in the middle of August, I am reminded at the end of December when we have incredible sunsets like the one above.  I took this at the Botanical Gardens annual Los Noches de las Luminarias.  A friend and I wanted to go and take photos of the event which neither of us had been to before.

It is very beautiful, they light the candles for a few hours, hundreds of them light the pathways through the gardens.

There are groups playing different types of music, jazz, Zen sounding instruments if that is an apt description, and just nice background music for having a glass of wine and walking the gardens on a cold and crisp night.  As time went on and it got darker, well, duh..it was very difficult to get many good photos.  I just don’t like the way the flash makes things look so opted for “chance” photos.

A very fortunate thing for us that evening was the addition of another exhibit by the artist Philip Haas.  He makes these truly amazing heads out of fiberglass.  His background is in the movie industry and it shows, these are exceptional.  Hopefully, you will be able to read the sign on him because I was too lazy to type it out.  Having a hard time getting my nose back to the grindstone after all the holiday frivolity.

Before I close and let you enjoy Philip, a note to all my blogger friends.  My New Year’s Resolution last year was to learn to do a blog.  I’m odd, I actually usually keep my resolutions and did 3 blogs this last year.  I have been blown away by the X factor of the blog world that I never expected. I did this blog, my father’s book blog which I am still posting on and a very obscure, very crude, angry and raw, often hilarious, if even just to me, totally anonymous blog on my divorce which I have since buried in cyberspace. I had to vent and I could not let you, dear friends, see me in such a condition.  I want to thank each and every one of you for the time you take to look at my blog and like or comment, it means a lot to me because I respect all of you so much, your creativity and talent blows me away daily and also inspires me to be a better artist, which is my resolution for this year.

About artblablablablog

I use everything to create art. I can't help myself. Someday, I hope something will come of all this but if not, I've had a lovely time and would not trade one second. I have a store on zazzle at www.meltedbutterflyarts.com and that does surprisingly well. I am loving the intelligent exchange on wordpress and I am so grateful to be connected with so many incredibly talented artist bloggers!

I was really feeling the zen moment reading your post on the desert botanical garden. Loved the pictures and the piece on Philip Haas, and really appreciated your heartfelt thanks to the blogging community. But the thought of you venting about your divorce on an anonymous blog is priceless to me, and my imagination couldn’t help but run wild. That had to have been great therapy for you, please tell me it was! You seem to be in a great place now, and for that I am happy. You deserve the happiest of New Years!

    • Thank you elisa, it was nothing less than totally cathartic, vengeful and an ugly delight. I did get my ya-yas out, big time and now I am at peace, rebuilding and understanding my life for the first time. All is well. There were a lot of interesting and insulting Photoshopped pieces for each post. I highly recommend it for anyone needing divorce therapy, beats a private journal all to hell. Thanks for being a thoughtful follower and happy 2013 to you, a very talented blogger!

I am so all for it.

Anonymous, harmless and self-preserving outrage. You did what you needed to do, and you’re moving forward.

      • Thanks for being so human and rational. The only thing that was not anonymous was a photo of a bust he had made of himself, actually 2, I guess in case one broke? Oh, and a painting I did of him called the sofa size devil, oops…;-)

  5. I love your sunset picture…truly beautiful. I also had an anonymous blog which I had posted a few posts in…it can be very therapeutic just to get it all out.
