I’ve had a project I have not been working on for 2 years now. I started it and it sat, primarily due to inertia. I originally wanted to do it for a particular spot in my house, over the entertainment center where the huge void of space looked anything but entertaining. I thought the light shining through the fins would look somewhat surreal. I was so inspired until I was told I could not put my fish up top of the entertainment center. Well, the inertia has moved out, like ex-lax for the mind, and now these fish that have been sitting in my studio being moved every time I want to use the space, are at the top of my “to do” list. They are in the “Buttugly” stage- a phase where only I can see where it is going. I normally don’t share work in progress but am trying to get out of my comfort zones these days. I started with taxidermy fish forms, they are HUGE! I put them on lucite poles and made little sand and tidepool platforms for them. I put the fins wherever I felt like they needed to be with no regard to what nature might have intended. I have forgotten what kind of fish they are supposed to be. And, of course, they all have arms and legs. There are 5 all together.

“I’ve had a project I have not been working on for 2 years now. ” I love this statement, may I use it as well..?? I like what I see and certainly want to see how they end up… ” buttugly” now that’s a word to add to my spell check.. I love it… Imagine saying to someone that has upset you “you are buttugly” I recon they will get the message…
I am laughing, thanks. In all honesty I could not say I had been working on them for 2 years, I’ve been staring them down for 2 years, stuck. Now that they have lips I’m on a roll. Buttugly is descriptive.
A works in process that holds huge promise. Thanks for sharing – not everybody would.
